What Does a Heat Pump Efficiency Assessment Examine?
An efficiency assessment considers how the air-to-water heat pump interacts with the rest of the heating and hot water system. The installer may review operating patterns, flow temperatures, hot water settings, controls, radiators or underfloor heating and the available system data.
Frequent starting and stopping, often described as cycling, is one factor that may be investigated. A complete assessment should not rely on that measure alone. The aim is to understand how the installation behaves in the home and identify realistic improvements based on evidence.
What Happens During the Visit?
Sterio Renewables’ on-site assessment is carried out by a Heat Geek trained installer and usually takes around one hour. The installer reviews the system, discusses any concerns you have noticed and gathers the information needed to form recommendations.
A written report is then issued within one week. It sets out the findings and suggested next steps in plain language. Where there is enough reliable operating and energy-use data, the report may also include an estimate of potential annual electricity cost savings.
If changes are recommended, they are quoted separately. This allows the homeowner to review the findings before deciding whether to proceed.
How Is This Different from Heat Pump Servicing?
A heat pump service focuses on maintenance and confirms that the installed system is working correctly. It may include checks, cleaning and other tasks needed to support safe, reliable operation.
An efficiency assessment focuses on how the complete system performs together and whether its configuration or operation could be improved.
If the heat pump has stopped working, is showing a fault code or is not producing heat, the correct starting point is heat pump servicing and maintenance, rather than an efficiency assessment.
How Much Does the Assessment Cost?
The Heat Pump Efficiency Assessment costs €200 plus VAT and is paid online when booking. Sterio Renewables will then contact you to confirm an appointment date.
If you go ahead with recommended work costing more than €1,000 before VAT, the full assessment fee will be credited against your final invoice.
Can an Assessment Guarantee Lower Bills?
No responsible assessment can guarantee a particular saving. Electricity use is affected by factors including the weather, energy prices, insulation, household routines and the temperature settings chosen by the occupants.
Where sufficient reliable information is available, the written report may estimate potential annual electricity cost savings. This estimate should be treated as guidance rather than a guarantee.
